About Anna's Cornwall View
Welcome to my website, which showcases a selection of my images of coastal locations in Cornwall, in the southwest of the UK. I was originally inspired to take up digital photography in 2006, in order to create a record of the Cornish landscape where I walk. My photography has greatly evolved since then. My primary goal has become the attempt to convey my personal constructions of the essence and mood of a place or moment and I particularly value spontaneity. I enjoy photographing the extremely picturesque views that Cornwall is renowned for but I've grown to prefer very simple scenes and those that might be considered mundane. |
Image purchase
Much of my work is available to purchase for personal, editorial and commercial use. Please see my Getty Images site or use the web form (link in the footer) to contact me.
Image display quality
This site seems to work best with the Firefox web browser but is not optimised for devices with high density displays. Furthermore, the images hosted directly have been compressed and resized to increase speed for web publication. In order to improve display quality in general, I've started adding embedded images and albums that are hosted on Flickr at a higher resolution (but not full-size) and reducing the number of directly hosted ones. My aim is to use this website to showcase a selection of images and to use Flickr, or another hosting facility, to display most of my work.
Structural framework
1. Geography
I've organised my work in terms of three levels of geographical location. At the coarsest level, I've divided the whole Cornwall coastline into nine major parts, which roughly correspond to the areas presented on nine Ordinance Survey Explorer maps. They follow the coastline in an anti-clockwise manner, beginning on the north coast and ending on the south coast by their boundaries with the neighbouring county of Devon. As yet, none of these parts is complete and there are large swathes of coastline that I've not covered. My website is a long term project and I continually add new galleries and update existing ones on an on-going basis.
Since I've covered a large number of locations in some parts, I've further divided them into smaller, more manageable, sections which contain a number of individual galleries. These galleries are the finest level and cover a small area, such as a single beach. Each gallery is linked to the ones in adjacent locations, meaning you can view the entire coastline I've covered by clicking on 'Next>>' or '<< Previous'.
For simplicity, I've also included a page where the locations featured are listed alphabetically.

2. Image media
In addition to digital photography, I enjoy all kinds of film photography (medium format, 35mm, toy camera and instant) and iphoneography. In my recent website reorganisation I removed them but I'm gradually adding them back as seperate slideshows.
I hope you enjoy viewing my images, thanks for visiting.
